What is the Living Legends Honors?
Every year NABJ-STL pays tribute to several local journalists who have gone above and beyond to tell stories with accuracy, humility and dedication.
These individuals are called Living Legends.
A significant portion of each year's proceeds go toward our initiatives aimed at supporting the next generation of journalists.
2024 Living Legends
Julius Hunter
Veteran Anchor
Hunter is veteran anchor and television pioneer in St. Louis as well as an author and historian focusing on St. Louis’s Central West End neighborhood. He was born in St. Louis and graduated from Sumner High School and Stowe Teachers College. Hunter, a distinguished lecturer, philanthropist, radio talk show host, newspaper columnist, musician, and educator, was the first African American primetime news anchor in St. Louis. He worked at Channel 4 and Channel 5 for a combined 33 years.
Kelly Jackson
KSDK Anchor
Longtime KSDK anchor and mentor to on-air personalities, Jackson is from Quincy, Illinois. She started her career at 5 On Your Side in 1998. After spending ten years at KSDK, Jackson anchored in Sacramento, CA but moved back to St. Louis where she spent more than ten years anchoring the weekend morning edition of Today in St. Louis. In 2021, Kelly became the co-anchor at 5 p.m.; in 2023, she was named KSDK co-anchor with Mike Bush.
Alvin Reid

Reid is the St. Louis American city editor, a regular pundit on the PBS local program “Donnybrook,” and a former St. Louis Business Journal reporter. Alvin Reid was a lead sports columnist for the Globe-Democrat, one of the stops he’s made in his nearly 30 years as a journalist. His career has taken him from Danville, Ill, to Little Rock, Ark., to Lansing, Mich., to Washington, D.C., and back to his hometown of St. Louis.
